Families United Network Presents to Williamsport Area High School Students

On Tuesday, March 25th, Ron Simon, CEO of Families United Network, visited Williamsport High School to discuss career opportunities in the field of social work with students during their lunch break. This event was part of the school’s commitment to exposing students to diverse professional paths and coincided with Social Work Month, celebrated throughout March.

During his presentation, he highlighted the growing demand for social workers, as outlined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which projects a 7% growth in employment for social workers in the coming years. His talk emphasized the wide range of opportunities in the field, as well as the challenges and fulfilling experiences that come with a career in social work.

The presentation left a strong impression on many students, including senior Meya Williams, who shared her aspiration to help others after hearing Simon’s inspiring words. Meya told WNEP reporter Mackenzie Aucker, “I go through mental issues a lot of times, and I want to help other people who do too. I really enjoyed the way he talked about his own experiences and connected it back to himself. It was very moving—I almost started to cry.”

Career presentations like this are part of an ongoing initiative at Williamsport High School to connect students with local employers and help career-focused seniors develop plans for life beyond graduation. Simon was the fourth speaker to visit the school in March, contributing to this invaluable program.

Families United Network extends heartfelt thanks to WNEP and the Williamsport Gazette for their coverage of the event, helping to highlight the vital role of social work and the opportunities it brings to the next generation of professionals.
